Dan Motill

School House Series

The institutions in this series were functioning schools during the mid 1800s into the early 1900s. They became victims of the rural school consolidation into districts starting in 1850 here in upstate New York: a process that continues today.

This whole topic was inspired by the Romulus Foundation for Educational Opportunities; a group of private citizens who donate time and money to enhance the local public school educational experience. To help them raise funds, the artist has donated the first three originals for use of the Foundation. In addition, after the third painting (in 2002), a part of all print sales from these and any subsequent originals will be donated to this worthy cause. Enjoy your trip into the past.
